Prologue I wrote this book to commemorate the death of Um Tae Hoon, a good son, friend, and Korean.
Born to parents who faced hardships adapting to Seoul after leaving their hometowns as teens, Tae Hoon was a hope and source of happiness within their challenging life and marriage. His passion for academics and martial arts inspired pride in his parents.
Despite frequent moves across the country, Tae Hoon showed leadership, evidenced by his fellow students consistently electing him to the class president. His varied interests drew many friends to his side, who later attended his Air Force Academy entrance ceremony in 2003 to celebrate.
As a student fighter pilot and then a logistics officer in the Air Force, Tae Hoon successfully completed his missions and twice earned the honour of best agent. Although his family and friends were proud of him, he longed for an escape beyond his stable life.
A restless soul, Tae Hoon pursued a new chapter alongside his wife and left the Air Force. Tragically, just as he embarked on this new journey, his life was cut short. I am deeply saddened by his untimely passing and offer my sincerest condolence.
